Workshop Wednesday, FB Linky, Giveaways

Jessica is hosting a new linky party called Workshop Wednesday! This week we're talking about our must haves in Writer's Workshop. My class and I simply couldn't live without figurative language/word work! It's such a HUGE part of our day! We are constantly finding/using examples of figurative language in all subject areas. Because I do so many activities and get so pumped up about it, my students notice it EVERYWHERE! Here are a few pictures from my classroom:

We COLLECT great figurative language examples from my read alouds and from my students' independent reading. We've filled this cabinet a few times! They love adding to collection and using this as a resource for their writing!

UPDATE: My Figurative Language Interactive Bulletin Board has been added to my Teachers Pay Teachers Store-click here to check it out!

My favorite book is the thesaurus! We collect words too! These are our synonym key chains. I made this template on index cards.

My idiom posters are a focal point in our classroom and constantly used as a resource. These posters are a great visual for students to reference. We also have several resources we use in our writing folders.

  1. I like how you teach figurative lanugage throughout the year - I usually teach it as a unit - but I like your idea and how the students are always looking for examples.
